RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY (RAM) & READ ONLY MEMORY (ROM)

 

RANDOM  ACCESS  MEMORY (RAM)

RAM is used to store information required for doing our task on computer. It is a temporary memory. The stored information is erased when the computer is switched off.  We can read information from the RAM and also write into RAM. So, it is known as the Read/ Write memory.

 

 

 

READ ONLY  MEMORY (ROM)

We can only read the information but we cannot write into this memory. The data or information is written into the ROM chip at manufacturing time. The operating system, details of all the peripherals are stored in the ROM chip. The information stored in the ROM cannot be changed. The information of ROM is not lost when the power supply is switched off. So, it is known as the Read Only Memory.
